Background

I am passionate about helping people be the best that they can be.   My journey began in 1997 in South Africa when I joined Life Line as a voluntary telephone Counsellor (they are a crisis line similar to The Samaritans here in the UK).  I went on to offer face-to-face counselling as well as assisting in the training and mentoring of new counsellors.  I became familiar with group work when I co-facilitated on Life Line’s 8 week personal growth course.

My skills are broad-based as I am passionate about continuing education. I commenced training in hypnotherapy in 2006, and over the intervening years qualified in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Coaching, Imago Couples & Family Counselling and Mindfulness Meditation. This skills set enables me to offer my clients a wide range of modalities to help them make changes in their life.

In addition to helping a person understand themselves and what causes them to think, feel and behave the way they do I give them tools and strategies to cope with whatever life throws at them.

Part of the human experience is pain, worry and suffering, that is a given; our attitude, what we say to ourselves, can compound those difficult times.  Self-Hypnosis, Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Mindfulness techniques provide several useful self-help tools that a person can learn to ride the wave of the ups and downs of life.  I teach my client these skills not only during our sessions together but also in the free self-hypnosis or meditation CD’s that I provide to support them between sessions.

My dream is that everyone can live their lives free of the learned behaviours, negative emotions and limiting beliefs that they adopted in childhood or in later years as a result of wounding or traumatic experiences.  This might be overcoming addictions, eating disorders, managing a healthy body weight, or releasing negative emotions such as anger, fear, sadness, resentment, guilt, stress, anxiety and depression or giving up self-sabotaging themselves with perfectionism, procrastination or negative self-talk.  This will open a person up to living life to the full in harmony with their true essence of joyful aliveness.

Experience

I have been in private practice since 2007.  I have now returned to the UK after an absence of 34 years and look forward to meeting new clients and developing further.

I was privileged to have the opportunity of teaching Mindfulness to patients in a Rehabilitation Treatment Centre in Johannesburg for 10 months.  It was gratifying to see how the gentlemen experienced an awakening to the fact that they can change how they think, feel and behave.
