Background

Welcome, my name is Andy and I’m a solution focused hypnotherapist working at The Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre.

If you are reading these words, then you have taken the first and most important step to making changes in your life by looking for support. As a therapist, and someone who has been a client, I can appreciate how difficult that first step can be. So be reassured that you will receive the utmost consideration and support. You will always be in control of your journey.

You may be reaching out for help because aspects of your life are not working and it is having a negative impact on you, and possibly the people around you.

You may have tried to find your own solutions but have now realised you need help.

Together we will work to relieve some of the negative emotions such as excessive anxiety, depression, fear, which may include fear of public speaking, phobias, PTSD, overstress at work and many other issues. I will help you move into a more confident and resilient mindset so that you are back in control of your general health and wellbeing.

About Hypnotherapy

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy focuses on how you want to be different in the future, once all the negative thoughts and feelings have gone. I’ll help you build that future, using talking therapy, your imagination, and hypnosis

“People do not come to therapy to change their past but their future” (Milton Erikson)

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a clinically researched, powerful and yet gentle and safe way of making positive changes in your life.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works with how you work and helps you access your natural solution finding abilities, to find your own solutions to the challenges in your life, whether it’s around relationships, work, fears such as public speaking, social anxiety, phobias etc. Solutions which are not available when you are lost in anxiety, depression, anger and negative thoughts.

The hypnosis part of hypno-therapy is perfectly natural and safe. You go into trance whenever you are watching TV, YouTube, going for a run or reading a book etc. So, you are already a natural. In hypnotherapy we use that natural ability to focus, to help you relax and de-stress and let go of any unhelpful thoughts and patterns. It helps tremendously. And remember in hypnosis you are always completely in control.

Qualifications

I am a fully qualified and accredited solution focused hypnotherapist. I studied at the renown Clifton Practice School of Hypnotherapy (Bristol) where I received awards in:

  • Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DFSH)
  • Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma (HPD)

Complementing these qualifications are trainings and experience in:

  • Neuro-linguistic Programming (Practitioner, Master Practitioner and Trainer)
  • Multi-brain Integration Technique (Practitioner)
  • The Sedona Method

However, beyond all the qualifications and accreditations, like many people, I am a human being that has suffered and struggled. My passion and compassion inform my work, with the belief that we need not suffer, there is help available.

Association memberships. I am a member of the following associations which oversee my practice and define the code of conduct for hypnotherapists.  The code of conduct requires that I have a supervisor, which can give you (the client) added reassurance.

Association of Solution Focused Hypnotherapists (AfSFH)

National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH)

Association for Neuro-linguistic Programmers (ANLP)

Experience

I have experience in all the strategies and techniques described above and have spent most of my life studying and exploring personal change strategies. My previous career was as a scientist (30+ years) where I honed my solution finding skills and apply those skills, now, in helping you.

My experience is expressed in some of my clients’ comments.

“I have really enjoyed my sessions with Andy, he was warm, knowledgeable, and very professional. I have gained so much from them. Andy really helped me feel at ease and comfortable (so much so I even think I fell asleep on a few occasions!) The sessions I have had helped me feel happier, calmer, more confident and excited for my future. I highly recommend”. (L in Swindon)

“I was helped immensely with managing my anxiety over the time spent with Andy. With each session, his knowledge, calming nature and real ability to understand & listen to my issues helped me see things in a more positive light & react to situations more consciously. He immediately put me at ease with his caring and professional approach. I would highly recommend Andy for anyone who is stuck in negative patterns which are affecting their life – Thank you Andy, you’ve been a life-changer. (L in Swindon)

I found my sessions with Andy incredibly useful in helping me to manage anxiety around a particular issue.  Even better than that, I have been able to apply what I have learned to my life in general with the result that I now feel much more resourceful and able to face whatever challenges might arise in the future – I feel that I will continue to benefit from these sessions for years to come!” (M in Swindon)
