Jakki Doust

Sometimes we encounter difficulties in our lives that are hard to face on our own, it can be helpful to have someone outside of our usual circle of friends and family to talk to.

You may be finding relationships difficult, either with partners or family members, friends or work colleagues, when relationships go wrong the impact on us can feel very distressing.

You may have experienced a loss, this can include a bereavement of someone close, or a pet perhaps, loss can also be a result of losing a job, a home or your health.

You may have experienced an event that was traumatic and overwhelming. The symptoms of trauma can leave us feeling very anxious, agitated, hypervigilant or even detached. This can undermine our sense of safety and wellbeing. Sadly, traumatic experiences can sometimes occur during childhood and if this is your experience it may be having an impact on your life now.

Counselling can be a source of comfort and help us through the difficult times, as we recover from these events we can feel more confident and resourced.  Having someone there who understands, listens and does not judge is very powerful and can result in change.

My aim is to provide you with a confidential, empathic support and a space for you to express your concerns, thoughts and feelings and where you can feel safe, listened to and accepted as you work towards a place of recovery and freedom in your life.

I have worked as a counsellor since 2005. During this time I have helped clients work through many issues, these include loss, depression and anxiety, disruptive early life attachment, PTSD, relationship difficulties, enduring behavioural patterns and wrong beliefs.  I also have experience in working with mental, emotional and physical abuse resulting from childhood experience, and abuse as a result of domestic violence in adulthood. Clients with severe trauma will need longer term work, which I am also committed to.
