If you are in crisis or are overwhelmed by problems, I can help.  I offer counselling to help you cope with difficulties and get the most from your life. I don’t give advice or make judgements about how to change things, but help you uncover your own insight.  Through supporting you to understand your problems I provide you with the tools to help you to resolve them.

Together we will look beyond symptoms and crises to understand what they mean for you. While working to reduce and eliminate those symptoms, we will also focus on you experience. As one of my clients said, “when you look at bad things they go away”.  We can find meaning from difficult thoughts or feelings, which may point us towards a more satisfying life. For example, when working with anxiety or panic attacks we might explore which uncomfortable emotions trigger that anxiety.  Learning to relate to those emotions differently may reduce or eliminate the worst symptoms.

Counselling can take time, as often it is necessary to explore unconscious feelings and attitudes. For example, you may feel depressed but not know why those feelings are so often present or overwhelming. Counselling is a journey and a single session is seldom enough. I can work with you for as long as it takes.

Normally we meet weekly at a regular time for just under an hour. The first session is spent exploring what you want to use counselling for. If you decide working with me will help you, we spend five more sessions exploring your issues, reviewing our work together at the end of that period. At that point we may decide to continue until you feel your journey is done.

I am a qualified and accredited life coach and have coached individuals and groups since 2010.  I have a wealth of experience working with young people, adults, refugees, the homeless, and individuals with mental health and addiction issues in the supported housing sector.  Having lived overseas in Africa for many years, I have a good appreciation of cross cultural and ex-patriot issues.

Sessions can be face to face, by telephone, or through Skype. We will have an initial session to decide if we can effectively work together. If we think we can, we will review that again after six sessions to decide what further work we want to do together. Often this will be to continue in an open ended contract until you decide you have reached the place you want to be, or that you want to stop.
