Who needs a Professional Crisis Plan and Will?
No one, if you are indestructible, never get ill and are going to live forever!!
As a professional therapist, you have a responsibility to take care of your clients should anything happen to you. It’s often the unexpected that catches us out.
One of our colleagues had a serious cooking fire at her home and was unable to work while she recovered from burns. She was shocked to think of her clients waiting for her while she was being treated in hospital and unable to contact them.
A client we know personally, was in therapy doing deep work when her therapist was taken terminally ill. Although she was informed, she wasn’t professionally held and struggled to manage. With our support, she was able to find an alternative therapist who gave her the containment she needed to work through the shock and continue her therapy.
Who do you ask to carry out your Professional Crisis Plan and Will?
It should be somebody professional and suitably qualified, who will not be emotionally affected by your crisis or illness and who can be trusted with the task.
At TCPC we offer a Professional Crisis Management Plan.
