Firstly I am a BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy) Registered Counsellor. My Registration number is 733722.

Being a trained and qualified counsellor, I adhere to the ethical framework and code of good practice of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy ). I have both public liability and professional indemnity insurances

Before embarking on my career as a counsellor, I worked as an Analyst for a large building society and also in the public sector as a civilian in the police force. Seeing the effects of crime on the public during my time with the Police, I then worked with Victim Support assisting clients and their families with the trauma of crime. I found this area of work very rewarding and this led me to train professionally as a counsellor.

I have also been involved in numerous voluntary projects ranging from helping people with mental health issues gain confidence and independence and supporting adults with severe learning difficulties and their families gain some respite care by advocating on their behalf.

As well as counselling at Swindon Counselling & Psychotherapy Centre I also counsel at a drug and alcohol residential rehabilitation centre where I work with clients who are engaged in a 12 step recovery programme, part of which is to have regular 1 – 1 counselling sessions to deal with any underlying issues which may be pinning their addiction. These can stem from all kinds of trauma from childhood to present day. I have dealt with the abused to the abuser. From anxiety and depression to guilt and shame from an entrenched criminal history of serious crime.

As well as my background as above , I have also worked with the Youth Counselling Service where I counselled adolescents having difficulty understanding their emotions and their behaviours and that of others. I found using alternative ways of expression particularly helpful with this group of people. Sometimes 1 – 1 direct dialogue can feel threatening, so I often use other mediums to facilitate ‘talk’ such as drawing or object representation. This can also work in adult therapy when there can be difficulty in articulating emotion and where feelings are supressed. I have seen great relief from clients when they have eventually been able to communicate what they are feeling and at last know they are understood and have been listened to.

None of life’s challenges are insurmountable. It’s the value you place on the events that is important and that comes from our past experiences. It writes a code. I can help you change that code. The fact you are reading this tells me you are ready for a change, to be the best version of who you are. To live the life you want. Embrace the change and change the code.

My philosophy, is that I passionately believe we are all capable of change and growth given the right environment. I feel having the time and space to have our feelings and inner thoughts heard and explored contributes to this process. I also believe everyone has a right to be listened to and as human beings we are all valued. I have learnt to separate the behaviour from the person, not to judge, to listen to what’s said and, more importantly, sometimes, what isn’t. This is what I can offer you at Swindon Counselling & Psychotherapy Centre.

My rates for a 50 minute therapeutic hour is £45.00 for 1 – 1 therapy.

For couples my rates are £60.00 for a 50 minute therapeutic hour.

** Should your enquiry be regarding alcohol or drug addiction, I would need to complete an assessment of your addiction to ascertain whether we can work together. This would be at the above cost.

Please note. Unfortunately I will not be available to see any client who are in active addiction ie using or drinking on the day of therapy. **
